The Last Day

Well, this is it. Last year at this time I was scrambling to submit my online application for the Peace Corps and wondering if I was going to get in or not. Now, I'm just about to go and I still can't really believe it.
The past several days have been very busy, and I have written many e-mails, talked a lot on the phone, and said many good-byes. I'm very good at it now. But now it is time to go and I can't wait to board the plane.
If you are reading this there is a good chance that you are a family member or a close friend. Many of you helped me get into the Peace Corps, and I'm very grateful for your assistance. I'll do my best to represent you to the people of Turkmenistan, and I'll write about my experiences here as often as I can. There will be no post for a while, since I will probably be overwhelmed during the first week. I hope to write many of you letters and I will be eager to hear of what you are all up to in the U.S. So, keep in touch, and enjoy the luxury of being able to take a hot shower every day.
